Voice – Potent Whisper

Potent Whisper – a young South Londoner, who is using his creative talent and voice to make a difference. He writes on the video featured below:

“Nine months ago I was asked to present a documentary for BBC 1’s Inside Out programme exploring the decrease of council housing in London. This struck me an important opportunity to expose estate regeneration on a mainstream platform whilst promoting housing campaigns across London, many of which I have been involved with for the past three years as both artist and organiser. I met with the producers and suggested to them that I present the documentary in rhyme, which is something I had been wanting to explore for a while. This was agreed and the brilliant @TRCdocumentary were brought in to film and edit. We worked with the producers for some months on the film and brought it to near completion. Unfortunately – without going into the details here – I came to learn that considerable changes were suddenly being made without my knowing and it ultimately transpired that the BBC’s vision for the film was not aligned with ours. Amongst other things we felt that key housing campaigns and estates were being misrepresented, in particular the Aylesbury Estate. Our concerns were shared with the producers and we explained that we were not prepared to compromise on key points. We decided to step away from the film and took it upon ourselves to create our own content on this issue independently, telling the stories that we felt weren’t being told. We are now very proud to present our new Spoken Word documentary series: The Rhyming Guide to the Housing Crisis Episode 1: Aylesbury Estate”

Other titles by Potent Whisper include: ‘The ryming guide to austerity’, ‘Brixton First’, ‘Do That’, ‘Lead Not Manage’, ‘What’s going on?’ and many more on issues affecting people’s lives.
